The late Lou Reed has had a great many eulogies and tributes in recent months. Possibly the most fitting, and oft-quoted, was by Brian Eno: "The first Velvet Underground record sold 30,000 copies in the first five years, [but] everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band.''. Well move aside, Brian, because there's a new contender for the best tribute crown, and it's by the scourge of comedy burglars everywhere, Macaulay Culkin.
Mac and his friends decided to record a bunch of Velvets songs, but with the notable distinction of making them all themed around pizza. The band's songs were on BandCamp (although they seem to have been removed - no doubt due to the massive strain on the BC servers as the novelty act goes viral). However, they are all featured in the above video. Some wag even made some amusing cover art for the project (below, see band's Tumblr).
The band has announced at least one show in March next year, the Black Cat in Washington D.C. All in all, a great thing to mindlessly gawp at while thinking how much the former child star looks like a lot like Axl Rose, but better looking. Maybe the old Guns N' Roses can get him on board.
You can read a little about the band's origins here.
